4회 Bow(절)

A: Why do you bow to the Buddha?

B: To show that I respect the truth that the Buddha realized and to the Buddha himself.

A: Is the Buddha and the teaching of the Buddha the same?

B: Yes, because he realized the truth of the universe.

A: But some critics say that Buddhists bow to an idol.

   What do you think of that?

B: Well, I think they misunderstand.

   They don’t know what the real meaning of buddha is.

A: Oh, Now I understand.

 

A: 왜 부처님께 절을 하지 ?

B: 부처님이 깨달으신 진리와 부처님께 공경을 표함이지.

A: 그럼 부처님과 부처님의 가르침과는 같은가 ?

B: 응. 부처님께서 우주의 진리를 깨달으셨기 때문이야.

A: 그러나, 어떤 사람들은 불자들이 우상숭배를 한다고 비난하던걸.  네 생각은 어때 ?

B: 글쎄, 그들이 잘못 이해 하는거지. 부처가 무엇인지 진짜 모르니까.

A: 아, 이제야 알겠구나.

주요단어 idol 우상, criticize 비난하다. Misunderstand 잘못이해하다. 타종교에서 불자들이 우상을 숭배한다고 하지만 우상이란 아무의미 없이 사람모습을 한 돌덩이,나무, 쇠붙이등을 의미한다. 하지만 불상은 부처님의 수행과 부처님이 깨달으신 그 진리 자체를 의미하고, 그곳에 절을 함은 그분을 경배함으로 번뇌를 참회하고 그분의 거룩한 삶을 따르고자 하는 다짐의 표현이다
