8회) Formal Greeting (사찰에서의 기본인사법)

A: Do you know how to make a formal greeting in the temple?

 

B: Yes. Normally, formal greeting includes a half bow, three prostrations, and a half bow again. Please follow my instructions.

 

A: Yes.

 

B: In front of the Buddha, put your palms together and do a half bow. And kneel down on the ground, put your right hand down, put your left hand down. Bend at your waist until your forehead touches the ground. Turn up your hands and raise them to your ears. Put your hands down. Sit up putting your palms together and stand up. Do it again. For the third bow, after raising to your ears. Put your palms together in front of your face. Stand up with your palms together. Do a half bow.

A: 절에서 하는 기본 인사법을 가르쳐 줄 수 있니?

B: 물론이지. 기본인사는 반배, 삼배, 반배로 구성되지. 자, 그럼 나를 따라서 해봐.

A: 먼저 부처님 앞에 서서 합장을 하고 반배를 해. 그리고 바닥에 무릎을 꿇고 오른손을 먼저 내리고, 왼손을 내려, 이마가 땅에 닿을 때까지 허리를 굽혀. 손을 뒤집어서 귀까지 올리고. 두 손을 내려 앉은 채로 합장을 하고 일어서. 그리고 다시 한번 절을 해. 세 번째 절에서는 두손을 귀까지 올린 다음에 다시 얼굴 앞에서 합장해. 합장한 채로 일어나서 반배를 해.
